very very small

<>

I made these sculptures for a weekend exhibition where everything had to be under 10 x 10 x 10 centimetres, strangely enough called 10 x 10 x 10.

""

That is even small for me! A lot of my work is almost that small...

.

They are made of paper, thread, wax, wire, ink, glue, coffee and a wooden skewer.

So tiny and beautiful :-) Do you dye your papers with coffee? As you know, I really admire your colours.

I once tried to dye a significant amount or fabric with coffee.... I wonder what happened to it. It was almost white in the end anyway, I probably just overdyed it.

Dear Jade,
I'm just stunned by the beauty of your work. Making art from such simple materials, without much pomp, and you shape it all into somethig gorgeous and mysterious and even quite haunting. Your last pieces seem to point backwards and forwards in time, something ancient stuck in there waiting to be deciphered, maybe.
Anyway. Love the drawings too, their sensitivity and delicacy. Know what you mean about drawing on cheap paper, there is something about the preciousness of good paper that inhibits me and my best things are done on tiny scraps of paper, quickly, almost without thinking.
You've got a link to my blog from your site, would you mind if I put a link to yours on mine?
Spring greetings,
Marion

Thanks you both so much!

Claire, i do indeed use coffee, but often it is mixed with some ink. You get a different colour depending on whether it's plunger or instant, and depending on the heat of the water. I have dyed fabric with it, too, it's good because it doesn't need a mordant. It needs to be pretty strong, though.

Marion you are so kind! Yes i like that they can look ancient and modern at the same time. I would love a link from your blog, very nice of you to ask, i never thought of that! Autumn greetings to you.

Hi Jade
Just been introduced to your work from Judy Wise in America. I love it all, but especially your drawings and textiles. Fabulous stuff.
