working and waterlogging

.

This is some stuff i'm working on at the moment, in my studio. I'm making them for a show in Darlinghurst, Sydney, opening August 2. It will be the first show i've had 'all by myself' that is not in wollongong.
Some of the sculptures will be pretty big, maybe larger than any I made before. As well as this i'll have drawings and smaller objects and whatever. Hard to say exactly at this point...
I am, of course, working like mad.

.

The place is Gallery 9. It's pretty new, set up just last year, and a rather lovely space. This is a photo of the entry/ hallway. There are three gallery rooms off this bit.

On a rather more mundane note, part of my bathroom ceiling caved in today. It was waterlogged, and has been threatening collapse for a few days now. At least having a shower won't be quite so risky now. Supposed to be a plumber coming tomorrow. The block of flats I live in seems to have constant plumbing 'issues,' a while ago we had a 'weeping wall'.
It might sound like something worthy of pilgrimage, but believe me, it was really just a big pest.

...my sister owns a house, where the tiles in the shower bows to her while she's in, the tiles are connected to the floor, not to the wall...one day she will come out like a walking mosaique ;)))
Working like mad is the best thing, that can happen....if it is in relation to art!!
I like the sculptures you create!

hi Jade, sorry to hear about your fallen ceiling. good that you didn't get caught in it when it caved in. it's like your sculptures are coming alive. even the walls/ceilings want to be part of your frenziness of production.

and guess what? after reading that you are having a solo show in Sydney, i dreamt that you are having another one at my all-time favorite museum at the Whitney Museum in NYC. how cool would that be? very cool. i tell you, i have an uncanning ability with dreams, so it's all a good sign... :).

can't wait to see the completed works for the show!

I don't recall if I've commented on your work in the past. If not -or even, if so- I find the natural and surreal qualities of your pieces quite captivating. Best of luck on your upcoming exhibition. As uschi said, working like mad can be a wonderful thing- it's oftentimes when the passion really begins to flow.

Uschi, looking like a mosaic could be kinda nice, hope the tiles aren't too sharp! Yeah working like mad can be good. Just so long as i don't go mad.

Mien maybe you are right, the ceiling just wants to join in...i guess it could be a little dull being a ceiling. A show at the Whitney would be awesome! i hope your dreams come true...

thanks Peggy, yeah it gets you moving!

Thankyou very much, Poplife. Your new blog looks great!

And thankyou Cally, papery excitement is a good way to describe it...

Helle i am planning to email you an invite when i get them, i do hope you can come.

Thanks Moonchild, let me know if you're ever in Australia.

I wish you were here for it Lauren; i really do miss your visits to my studio. But you'll get to see the pictures. And you'll be back in time (i hope) for my show next year, albeit you'll be in a different state. But closer. I'll be thinking of you (as i go mad).

Thanks very much Saints and Sinners, it would be nice to have a big room just for sculptures....

Thankyou Cathy, i wish you could see the show, too!
